The Pushcart Prize

"The Pushcart Prize - Best of the Small Presses series, published every year since 1976, is the most honored literary project in America. Hundreds of presses and thousands of writers of short stories, poetry and essays have been represented in the pages of our annual collections." - www.pushcartprize.com by Bill Henderson.

Ok. So far, so good. Now how do you get that trailer trash you call your "masterpiece" into one of their annual prints? Read on...

Any magazine or book editor may submit upto six nominations. The catch is that the editor can only submit stuff which his publication has actually printed. So let's dig up that email address list and fire away at that sorry chump who actually printed your drivel. Beg, cajole, threaten to flood your editor's mail box with manuscripts, but get yourself nominated for the pushcart prize. That's half the battle won. At least you can say that you've been nominated for the pushcart prize......

Oh yeah, in case you're really serious about getting your writing featured with them, you might buy the last few editions of the pushcart prize and read through them, just to get a feel of the kind of stuff that actually gets printed. Besides, it might be enjoyable. After all, these are the writings of award winners. The Pushcart Prize XXXI: Best of the Small Presses (2007 Edition) by Bill Henderson
